About Imelda Spencer, founding director of Positive Resolutions Plus

Imelda Spencer  of Positive Resolutions Plus has had immense experience within the field of education and safeguarding.
Imelda was a  teacher on the Wirral for 16 years. In 2001, she was promoted to SENCo;  then in 2005, she became a member of the Senior Management Team. From 2009 until she finished teaching in 2015, she was in role as the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead of the whole school. She has been an independent Family Support Worker, acting as lead professional in TAF (Team Around the Family) cases from 2011 to Aug 2020, having had service level agreements with five primary schools to deliver Family Support for their vulnerable families.
She is an independent Safeguarding Trainer delivering whole school/college/organisation basic safeguarding awareness training, Designated Safeguarding Lead in Schools/Colleges training and bespoke training at school requests.  She conducts whole school safeguarding audits. Imelda has NSPCC accreditation as a safeguarding trainer.  She has gained: NSPCC Certificate of Proficiency in Child Protection Training in June 2018.
From Sept 2018, she will be delivering safeguarding training as a freelance trainer to the Diocese of Chester schools. In Sept 2019, Imelda became an Associate Safeguarding Trainer for Children in Wales. In 2019, she started to deliver training as a consultant for SaB training
Imelda's Background and Experience in Education and Safeguarding

 

In her roles as SMT member, teacher, SENCo and school Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, Imelda has gained vast experience in all areas of SEN/D and child protection/safeguarding. She was responsible for the SEN within school, being accountable to the headteacher and governing body. As Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, she maintained records, lead staff in monitoring and recording concerns. As a DSL, she referred cases for TAF or social care intervention using the WSCB procedures. Imelda attended section 17 and section 47 social care case reviews, TAF meetings and Strategy Meetings. Imelda is the lead professional in TAF cases whenever appropriate. She delivered safeguarding training to the whole staff and parent helpers.

 

Within her role an an SLE, having successfully streamlined her own school's SEN systems,  Imelda supported another school on Merseyside by streamlining their SEN systems, in line with the Children and Families Act 2014 and the new SEN Code of Practice 2014, to increase their robustness, effectiveness and make them easier to manage for SENCo, headteacher and all staff. Ofsted particularly viewed this new SEN system favourably during the inspection of the supported school in 2014.

 

She remained in post as a teacher, until 2015, when she decided to leave in order to further develop her independent consultancy- Positive Resolutions Plus. Imelda was immensely valued at school for her depth of knowledge, wide ranging experience, team building skills, contribution to the senior management team and for her intuitive insight.

 

Development of her Independent Consultancy Role- 2011 to date : Safeguarding Trainer and Family Support Worker 
 
Whilst in post at school, Imelda developed her own independent consultancy-Positive Resolutions Plus offering an independent child and family support service.From 2011-2020, she has had service level agreements with five local Wirral primary schools for her family support worker service, gaining the CACHE Level 3 Award : Parent Support Pathway. The training course for the CACHE Award was supervised by the lead of the EQ Wider Workforce and Safeguarding Team, Wirral Borough Council. In her role as a Child and Family support worker for over 5 years, Imelda has  worked directly with familes, using restorative practice, mediation, coaching and solution focus methods. She worked systemically within the school directly with the child, within the family home and with the school staff.
Imelda has acted as lead profession in TAF cases for her families in SLA schools, when appropriate; and liaises with the local social services and other agencies-Leapfrog, Tomorrow's Women, Children's Centres, community paediatricians, SALT, school nurses, ASD teams, Educational Psychologists etc, following the LSCB (WSCB) procedures and the referral routes to MASH; attends network meetings led by Gateway teams; and making referrals for early help and social care intervention where necessary.
Imelda has developed her successful safeguarding training consultancy- Imelda is NSPCC accredited as a safeguarding trainer. In June 2018, she gained her NSPCC Certificate of Proficiency in Child Protection Training.
She successfully delivers training to school management teams and whole staff on the Wirral and  other regions. All of her courses 2016-2018 were validated as meeting the expectation of WSCB. In FEB 2018, Wirral Safeguarding Children Board decided to no longer validate any outside training providers now that they are offering chargeable training themselves to schools. Imelda remains one of the independent trainers that schools trust to deliver up to date, relevant and  in depth courses to their staff, governors and parents
She also delivers safeguarding training for recruitment agencies and organisations.
